Non-traditional careers to look into

by Ncumisa Lerato Kunana

Some people consider certain professions and careers to be beyond the norm for particular demographic groupings. In some instances, a bigger proportion of one group than another works in a given industry.

In this article, we’ll talk about what constitutes a non-traditional career and provide a list of jobs that both men and women might find non-traditional for the other sex but it would be great to look into as it might interest you even though it is dominated by the opposite sex.

Non-traditional careers are jobs or positions that are most often filled with individuals of either men or women. Here are some careers Indeed considers non-traditional.

Welder (Female)

Welders use special equipment to fuse multiple pieces of metal together. They often work on construction sites or for manufacturers. Their duties might also require them to polish and shape the metal after fusing and test their work to ensure it is safe to use.

Firefighter (Female)

Firefighters are trained individuals who specialise in fire safety and extinguishing procedures. During their working day they might conduct inspections on buildings to ensure they’re following fire safety protocols and respond to emergency calls to fight fires in the surrounding area using special equipment and vehicles. Firefighters often work for cities with other first-responder units such as police officers and emergency medical technicians.

Construction worker (Female)

A construction worker uses their physical and technical skills working on construction sites. They perform several tasks, including moving and building with special materials, like brick and cement, operating heavy equipment and ensuring the site follows standard safety procedures.

Early childhood teacher (Male)

An early childhood teacher works with toddlers to provide them with care and instruct them on foundational vocabulary and reading skills. They might also help children develop basic social and communication techniques. Early childhood teachers most often work in daycare facilities and kindergarten classrooms.

Massage Therapist (Male)

Massage therapists help treat patients by manipulating their muscles and other soft tissues. Using their touch, they can help patients relieve stress, heal injuries and improve circulation. Massage therapists often work in offices or privately in client and customer homes.
