Healthier alcohol drinks you should try

by Unathi Balele

When it comes to alcohol consumption, moderation is always key. However, truth is some alcoholic drinks are healthier than others.

According to Mayo Clinic, moderate alcohol consumption may provide some health benefits, such as: Reducing your risk of developing and dying of heart disease.

Possibly reducing your risk of ischemic stroke (when the arteries to your brain become narrowed or blocked, causing severely reduced blood flow) and possibly reducing your risk of diabetes.

Here are some healthier alcohol drink options to try out:

Red wine

Red wine contains antioxidants, which can help protect against heart disease. It also has a lower glycemic index compared to other alcoholic beverages, which means it won’t spike your blood sugar as much.

Tequila

Tequila is made from the agave plant, which contains fructans, a type of fiber that can help with digestion. It also has fewer calories compared to other types of alcohol.

Gin and tonic

Gin is made from juniper berries, which contain flavonoids that can help reduce inflammation. When mixed with tonic water (which contains quinine), it can help reduce muscle cramps and lower blood sugar levels.
