World Mental Health Day!

by Unathi Balele

The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilise efforts in support of mental health.

Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, act, make choices, and relate to others.

The World Health Organization says that this day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.

People are advised to take care of their mental health just as much as they do with their physical health.

According to the Mental Health Institute, here are tips to taking care of your mental health:

  • Exercise regularly
  • Eat healthy, regular meals and stay hydrated.
  • Make sleep a priority
  • Try a relaxing activity
  • Practice gratitude
  • Focus on positivity
  • Stay connected to loved ones

“Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay – an important day for all of us. I hope you can be kinder to yourself, I hope you remember that you’re not a burden, you’re lovely just the way you are—none of your flaws make you worth less, celebrate it by doing something that brings you peace,” Achyuta_samanta tweeted.
