5 top tips for buying the best mattress

by Kwanele Mathebula
top tips for buying the best mattress

We spend around one-third of our lives sleeping, so it makes sense to buy a bed that offers the most benefits for your health and wellbeing. Below are a few examples of these:

The health benefits

There are many health benefits to getting enough sleep, but also to getting quality sleep. These benefits include:

  • Having a better sleep posture and spine alignment
  • Preventing pain caused by poor sleep posture
  • Reducing snoring caused by poor sleep posture
  • Less tossing and turning, leading to better quality sleep
  • A reduction in stress levels because you are more rested
  • A reduction in allergies caused by dust mites and other allergens.

So get rid of that old, lumpy or sagging mattress and get one that will be a comfortable retreat at the end of the day.

When buying a new mattress, keep the following five tips in mind.

Buy the best quality you can afford

You may not be able to buy the most expensive mattress on the market, but make sure you invest in a top quality one, even though it may not be the cheapest there is.  A bed should last between five and seven years, so make your mattress an investment for your future self.

Do your research before you shop

Before you start shopping, do some research. Check out which mattresses are available and – more importantly – which mattresses are available for the budget you have. A great place to start your research is the Sealy website, where you’ll be able to find helpful information about healthy sleep, different mattress comforts and the newest in mattress technology.

Choose the store wisely

When you choose where to buy your new mattress, look for a trusted store where you are comfortable shopping. You should also make sure that the sales assistants know their product well so that they can help you choose the best mattress for your needs.

Find the right mattress size for you

You should also keep the size of the mattress you’ll need in mind when going shopping for a bed. For example, do you sleep with a partner? Are you taller than average? Perhaps you are used to tossing and turning during the night or just “need your space” when you’re sleeping. Then you may need a bigger size or extra length mattress. For example, a double mattress of 137cm offers a sleep surface for two people equal to a cot mattress width each. If this sounds like too little space, rather choose a queen or king-size mattress.

Don’t rush the process

In the end, it is important that you take your time to find your perfect mattress with just the right level of comfort. Sealy offers Firm, X-Firm, Medium Plush and Ultra Plush comfort levels to suit your personal preference. When you go to the shop, wear comfortable clothes and take the time to lie down on the different mattresses, in your usual sleep position, to feel the support and comfort each bed offers.

Why we recommend a Sealy mattress

Sealy is committed to helping you sleep better. Not only does Sealy have a choice of comfort and support systems to suit your personal preference, but they are also orthopaedically designed. A Sealy mattress is an investment that will pay you back with years of healthier sleep.
