Catching up with Nakhane

This has been a great year for me. It started off with an Australian tour, and I also played at a few shows in Europe, Brazil and North America. The deluxe version of my album You Will Not Die was released and I promoted it for a while through the media. I also had the chance to act in another film, and wrote some essays for a few magazines. But, I’ve mostly been writing new music.

I love live performances and I’m looking forward to performing in South Africa. There’s something truly magical about how ephemeral it is. I used to beat myself up for not being perfect, and even though there is always room for improvement, I now focus on enjoying the moment. I hope that the audience feels that, and enjoy our moment together. I’m glad to be in Mzansi because I’ve missed the food and the way we laugh, dance and sing publicly.

SOUTH AFRICA! I’m coming home to play some music for you. I will be with you in Durban, Cape Town and Joburg. Link to tickets is on my bio. See you soon. #SeeTheWorldDifferently

Touring You Will Not Die in SA is important to me. I’ve always wanted to, but it clashed with pre-booked tour dates. I also found that when the album promotions end, people move on to the next thing. But, I didn’t want my SA supporters to think that they were last on my mind, hence the tour.

I perform in intimate settings because I want to connect with my audiences. This tour is sponsored by Scottish Leader, and our slogan is See the World Differently. I like it because I’m more interested in understanding things differently. I also want to see my audience getting down and sweaty because South Africans know how to have fun.

This year, I’ve learnt that I have no control over how things unfold in this world. Even though this is still very hard for me, I’m learning not to worry and stress about things I can’t control. It sounds easy, but it’s a daily practice that I am yet to master.
