We recently caught up with Lerato Kganyago, a television presenter, model, businesswoman and socialite best known for hosting her own talk show on Soweto TV called The LKG Show; and for hosting the SABC1 lifestyle magazine show The Link.
We sit down with Lerato as she tells us about her work, being brand ambassador for Always Platinum and dealing with the “Pull Her Down Syndrome” (PHD)
Always Platinum
Always approached me to be their brand ambassador. I think it’s because they know what I am about; I am all about women power. I feel like the Always brand is what I am about, women power and confidence. It’s been an amazing journey so far.
The industry
When I got into this industry I knew what I was getting myself into. Not everyone will like you. I feel I have done well for myself but I don’t think I’m there yet. There’s still a whole lot room for improvement.
Dealing with Rejection
I am a very spiritual person and I think that has come in handy, it has helped me get through. Also I always surround myself with positive people and that helps. Getting into this industry I always knew that it wasn’t going to be easy, I remind myself every day that our success won’t come at the same time. I went to over 50 auditions before I got The Link but I chose not to give up after hearing so many “no’s” because I had a vision and I knew where I wanted to be.
Being compared to Bonang Matheba
I’ve been compared to Bonang a couple of times, people has went as far as saying I am trying to be like her. Things got worse when I got The Link because that job was meant for B* but she went somewhere else. I’ve learnt to brush these kind of comments of. I don’t mind being compared to other people as long as the comparisons are positive
Pull her Down syndrome (PHD)
Just like every other women, I have experienced PHD. But I make sure I talk about it, I never brush it off. Before I used to be loud about it but I have learnt to sit back and let you make a fool out of yourself and walk away. I know that not everybody will like me and I am OK with that.
