What you need to know in the latest unemployment stats

The latest numbers released by Stats SA paint a serious picture.

Stats SA has released the latest quarterly statistics which show a slight increase in unemployment.

The Quarterly Labour Force Survey showed that unemployment increased to 27.5% in the third quarter of the year.

The new statistics also showed that youth unemployment was high irrespective of levels of education, although young people with graduate degrees remained the group with the lowest unemployment numbers.

The stats painted a gloomy picture of the total number of unemployed showing that only 16.4 million of a potential 38 million working population was employed, and also that 6,2 million were unemployed and 15.4 million was not economically active.
