Gabrielle Union gets candid about surrogacy

New mom Gabrielle Union got candid about the decision to have her daughter with husband, Dwyane Wade, via surrogacy. In an interview with Women’s Health magazine, the star shared that she felt like a failure after her infertility struggles impacted her ability to carry her own child. She said in part; “There’s nothing more that I wanted than to cook my own baby. The idea of it felt like surrendering to failure.”

Gabrielle also shared her worries about how the public would receive the news of the surrogacy. “People want to see the bump, hear that you got hemorrhoids — they want to know you’re like them,” the actress said. “I was like ‘This is going to seem like the most Hollywood s— ever. Will I be embraced as a mom?’ It’s terrifying.”

She went further to reveal that once she accepted the idea of using a surrogate, she had one trait in mind. “Some people care about the race, religion or food habits of their surrogate. I was like, ‘I want a reader,’ “ she said.
