A yummy pudding that everyone will love, this banana and chocolate upside down cake by Ntwenhle Gcabashe will be a hit.

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cooking time: 40 minutes

Serves: 8–10

  • 1½ cups self-raising flour
  • 4 bananas, halved
  • ½ cup chocolate chip
  • ½ cup caramel sauce
  • ½ cup castor sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup (250ml) oil
  • ½ cup (125ml) milk
  • Almond nuts, for serving

  1. Preheat the oven to 180˚C.
  2. Layer bananas in a greased baking dish. Add caramel sauce and set aside.
  3. Mix flour, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in a bowl.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, chocolate chip, oil and milk. Pour over dry ingredients and mix well. Spoon over bananas, and bake for 35–40 minutes or until cooked through.
  5. Serve warm with almond nuts.
