I wasn’t supposed to move into this house. I had seen about eight or nine bigger and better places before coming here with my property agent. The first thing I noticed when we drove in was that the driveway was very bumpy. It would damage my car I thought. Then I looked at the house itself, it was all wrong. The walls were brown and white, the grass was climbing the walls and everything was just filthy. I told myself I wouldn’t live here. Avoiding being rude, I let the agent lead me inside. As we walked around my heart started to soften towards the place. I liked the space inside and the price was quite reasonable. When I pictured the garden in a better state, I was tempted by all the space I’d have to practise my goalie tricks.

After I’d pictured this house with furniture I made my decision to take it on the spot. It was a risky move but I know I made the right decision. Now that I’ve painted the house in a different colour it feels like home. Believe it or not, every little thing you see here was chosen by me. I’m not an expert in décor but I’m very happy with the way my house looks – there’s nothing I’d want to change right now. Remembering that I grew up in a shack in Ventersdorp, I’d be crazy not to be satisfied with how far I’ve come. The house is a bachelor’s paradise; each day involves a little bit of PlayStation... actually I’m lying, I play it a lot! When I’m not in front of the PlayStation, I’m on my trampoline in the backyard. It’s a lot of fun but also helps with my balance, which improves my performance on the field.
Exercising is also a big part of my home routine; it was especially hectic when the Vaseline Fitness challenge competition was still running. I take my soccer career and my role as the Vaseline for Men products ambassador so seriously that I follow a strict training schedule even at home. It’s been a real blessing living here; the best part of it all was surprising my parents with the news. In fact, I didn’t tell them I’d moved into a bigger house. My mom wanted to visit me as she normally does and I took her to my new house instead of the smaller townhouse I used to have. She wanted to know whose house it was, and I joked that it was just lent to me. The following week my mother and I brought my father and he was so happy that he cried. I’d never seen a tear from his eyes before. I share this house with my brother Lucky and my parents visit at least once a week. I always look forward to having them around. [e]
